Film look recipe

Creating film looks with curves, grain, halation, and bloom

A convincing film-inspired image begins with exposure and color relationships. Texture and glow should reinforce that foundation.

1. Density and contrast

Set exposure, then shape a gentle toe, stable midtones, and soft highlight shoulder. Compare fitted view and 100%.

2. Palette

Adjust white balance, saturation, density, balance, and selective curves while keeping important neutrals anchored.

3. Optical character

Introduce halation, bloom, and diffusion one at a time and compare against the clean grade.

4. Grain

Judge grain at output size. Grain is render-only and does not transfer through a standard 3D LUT.
